Rhinoplasty

Nose Surgery

What is a Rhinoplasty (Nose Lift)?

Rhinoplasty, often called a "nose job," is a surgical procedure that reshapes the nose to enhance facial harmony or improve nasal function. The primary goals include:

  • Refining the nose’s appearance to better balance facial features, such as straightening a crooked bridge, reshaping the tip, or narrowing wide nostrils.

  • Correcting functional issues like a deviated septum, nasal obstruction, or breathing difficulties.

  • Repairing deformities from injury, trauma, or congenital differences (such as cleft lip or palate).

Rhinoplasty can be performed for cosmetic reasons, medical reasons, or both, and often leads to improved self-confidence and quality of life.

Have a question?

Who is a good candidate?

You may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty if you:

  • Are in good general health, with no conditions that would impair healing.

  • Your facial growth is complete.

  • Do not smoke, or are willing to quit before and after surgery.

  • Have realistic expectations about the results and are seeking improvement, not perfection.

  • Are bothered by the shape, size, or function of your nose due to genetics, injury, or previous surgery.

During your consultation, your surgeon will review your medical history, examine your nasal structure, and discuss your goals to determine if rhinoplasty is right for you

How is the procedure performed?

Standard Rhinoplasty: Incisions are made inside the nostrils. The nasal bones, cartilage, and soft tissues are reshaped to improve the external contour.

Open Rhinoplasty: Frequently used for difficult or larger noses. Involves one external incision across the columella (strut between the nostrils). Bones, cartilage, and soft tissues are reshaped under direct vision.

Tip-plasty: If only the nasal tip is abnormal, it may be corrected with either a standard or external (open) approach.

What does recovery look like?

  • First Week: Expect swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort. A splint is typically placed on the nose and removed after about one week.

  • 1–2 Weeks: Most swelling and bruising subside, and many people feel comfortable returning to work or school within 1–2 weeks.

  • 4–6 Weeks: Light exercise may be resumed, but avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting during this period.

  • Months 1–3: Swelling continues to decrease, but subtle changes may persist.

  • Up to 1 Year: Final results become apparent as all swelling resolves and the nose settles into its new shape.

Following your surgeon’s instructions and attending follow-up appointments are key to a smooth recovery and optimal results

Frequently asked questions

How long do rhinoplasty results last?

Rhinoplasty provides permanent results. Once healed, the changes to your nose are lasting, though natural aging will continue.

What are the risks?

Like all surgeries, rhinoplasty carries risks such as infection, bleeding, asymmetry, breathing difficulties, or the need for revision surgery. Choosing a board-certified facial plastic surgeon reduces these risks.

Will there be visible scars?

Most incisions are made inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty) or in discreet locations at the base of the nose (open rhinoplasty), making scars minimal or well-concealed.

Can rhinoplasty improve breathing?

Yes, functional rhinoplasty can correct structural problems like a deviated septum or narrow nasal passages, leading to easier breathing and reduced snoring or sinus issues.
